Sunday School

It's been awhile since we've talked about Sunday School, so I would like to revisit this topic. What should be the main objective of Sunday School? Smaller group studies, indoctrination, discipleship, fellowship, etc.? What is the best way to approach this ministry and are there some pitfalls that should be avoided?

I would say the objective for Sunday School consists of those you mentioned: fellowship, doctrine, discipleship....

The best way to approach the ministry is somewhat dependant upon each church & its teachers & resources...example, if a church can have a "New Member" class, that is great. The challenge I have found is getting new members to come to Sunday School.

The pitfalls in Sunday School are so many people thinking that they don't need it....and people teaching who just "read from the quarterly" or don't even consider learning good teaching techniques.

Just a few thoughts....

I won't answer on everything. I agree with Brother Neal.

I want to say I think it would help our churches if we could find some way of training our teachers. I don't know if it would require pastors sitting down in the teachers' houses or having special seminars. I don't know, but I do know it would help out many if our Sunday School teachers' understood the importance of their position and the best way to execute their responsibilities.

Bro. Harold Davis, had an intresting aproach to teaching teachers. on wed. night after services, He would take the Teachers into a room and teach the lesson for next Sunday morning. I think it worked real well. that was in the mid 70's.concon
