What God Can't Do

Logically speaking, there are some things God can't do. Would you care to name one?

he CANT send a saved man to Hell and he CANT send a lost man to Heaven.

Here is my question back to you my brother...can God make a rock so big that He CANT pick it up?

btw...on this issue of "can't"...we must understand that God is SOVERIEGN and CAN do anything He wants to. However, He has bound himself to His Word therefore he WONT violate it.

Ahh, but God is a god of infinite power therefore, no rock could be made that He could not lift! Haha!

On the "can't" part, I understand the SOVEREIGN issue, but it goes even more basic than that (on some things). For example, it isn't that God can't sin because He is bound by His Word. He can't sin because it's not even in His nature to sin. It's like expecting a duck to give birth to a cow..."It ain't gonna happen!" Otherwise, I'm with ya bro!

Sin is transgression against His laws. His laws are what He wants. If he kills, since he hasn't given himself a law not to kill, it isn't sin. He hasn't given himself any laws as far as I'm aware. Like animals. Do they sin? No, they have had no laws given to them.

As far as I know, the only time God gave any kind of command to Himself is when He agreed within Himself for the plan of salvation. Thus Jesus said "not my will..."


Concerning what He cannot do, you are correct Brother Matt. God CAN NOT ever go against His nature. Call it nature, character, attributes or whatever you will, but God cannot act outside of WHO HE IS!

This answers most of the questions if not all of what He can and cannot do. Can He create a rock so big He can't lift it? No, b/c creating such a rock would not be in His nature. It would go against His character to create such a silly thing.

Brother Crain states it this way.
C=W=C. Character = Will = Choice. God will ALWAYS make choices according to His will. His will shall ALWAYS be determined by His character. Therefore, God can and will ONLY do that which is according to His nature to do.

So what is His character or nature? We do not have a complete list, but some of the major characteristics are...

Infinite in power, infinite in knowledge, able to be physically anywhere at any time, possessing a knowledge that reaches everywhere at all times, self-revealing, loving, merciful, gracious, patient and jealous. God will never, therefore, act outside of these characteristics.

You said that God wouldn't do such a silly thing...have you ever seen some of us preachers...matt during an aggie game...me eating crawfish...etc...etc.

God has done plenty of things that are silly...but I do hope you all know that I wasn't serious about the question anyway...I was just curious about your responses.

I agree with y'alls take on this question though.

God cannot give you everything you want because you will always want more.

God cannot ever stop loving you or His love can be manipulated by man.
