Hi Matt,
I have a couple of comments to make regarding the proposals brought forth in the Secretary-Treasurer of Missions' report. First, I have looked at the proposed statement of mission policy and have one suggestion to make. Under the proposed Section II where it says, "The messengers of churches of the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas will not consider requests for mission support unless it is a church associated with, and subscribing to, the principles and practices of the churches of the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas." I think we should be more specific in what principles and practices we are talking about just as the Mission Policy of the ABA. Also, on the proposal under study by the committee regarding taking the surplus money in the mission fund and making loans to churches and missions, I see that as a very dangerous precedent at best. Would that not make the churches and missions servants to the association? What if a church or mission defaults on the loan, then what? Also, what business do the churches have of getting into mortgage lending? Would we open our work up to more government oversight? I think we had better pray and think long before we decide to go down that road.
