God Is Good!

I love to hear the testimony of a child of God who has seen God work in their life. It encourages others and reassures them of God's provision and care for them. So, I would like for all of you to post a comment sharing one time that God truly blessed you (it can be sad, funny, hopeful, etc.). And no, I don't mean a blessing as the world takes it, I mean a blessing as the Bible defines it. So share your stories, and let's glorify God!

I suppose my blessing would be my wife. Living in California, her father (a U.S. Marine) suddenly suffered a heart attack. He survived, but decided to move closer to his family in Texas. His original plan was to move to Lufkin, but hassles with the real estate agent prompted him to move to Nacogdoches instead. My wife then began attending the same campus ministry at SFA that I did... we met, dated, then married. Now we have three beautiful children.

At that time in my life, I was at a turning point. My wife helped turn me in the right direction. That is my blessing.

God has blessed me with so much, my husband and then children being at the top of the list. Adopting my son was the time in my life I could most clearly see God's leading. Hold on, and I will try and give all the details for the long version of the story...

We knew our family wasn't complete with one child, and were hoping for another soon. I did in-home daycare at the time, and started care for a little girl who had been adopted from China. We started looking more into adoption, and as doctor's gave us less and less hope about getting pregnant again, we learned more and more about adoption, and felt we were being led to pursue this option. We felt that adopting in the US was our best option due to finances, so we decided to get a home study done and start putting our names out there. At church one Sunday, we were sharing what God was doing in our lives. I remember standing up to share that God was leading us to adopt. Another couple had just found out they were pregnant. (Not to skip around too much in the story, but both our boys were born on the same day!)

Months went by, and as we jumped through hoops, no real opportunities were coming to us. We looked closer at some agencies, and the day after praying with some friends that God would open the doors He wanted open, we found an agency and called. She told me they were in great need of families to adopt African American boys. We had already decided that no matter what color of skin, God was greater than any challenge we would encounter, so we were open to any race. We also really wanted a boy. Ashlee denies it now, but she had always asked for a brother as well! That was the beginning of November. We had some more hoops to jump through, and when I called December 15th to see how everything was going, I was told the home study agency needed to get the adoption agency an update fast...they had a baby boy who had been born December 8th, and he would be ours! Well, December and the mail system just don't mix, so the red tape stretched out longer. We did receive a picture of James and I even got to hear him over the phone. Since we were in Oregon, and he was born in the South, we were still apart our first Christmas. We were able to talk to the family who was caring for him though and that helped a lot. Finally, everything was in order and James would be escorted to us at the Portland Airport. We were there early of course, but I can still remember friends coming down the escalator carrying balloons saying "It's a boy". Finally it felt real! Family came as well, and we were able to hold our James for the first time.

God is so good! Though we felt completely out of control through the whole process, He had it all planned out and looking back, it just all came together so well.

Other than my conversion story, I don't really have a big and involved story to tell. I am blessed because I managed to survive my teens and early twenties without having children, contracting some horrific disease, dying of alcohol poisoning, or a myriad of other things. There are so many reasons that I can show you to explain why I hold so tightly to God's Providence, but my testimony is most certainly the most clear. If I were calling the shots, I would not be in the grace-filled place that I am.

And for the record, had I contracted a disease, had children, or died, I would have been equally as blessed. My God promises that these trials are for my good, even if they are borne of my own sin. I am sanctified by them.

While I don't have time right now to share a specific blessing (I'm heading back out to camp), I can say that GOD IS GOOD! He has blessed me in so many ways. He is a gracious God who, through thick or through thin, has always loved me and provided His only Son for my sin debt. What a wonderful blessing it is to have such a loving God!
